"What's your biggest weakness?" (Here's what NOT to say)

Interviewer: "What's your biggest weakness?"

You: "I'm a perfectionist! I just care too much about doing things right. Sometimes I work too hard."

That answer is so overused, interviewers now roll their eyes when they hear it.

You think you're being clever turning a weakness into a humble-brag.

They think you're either:

  1. Unself-aware
  2. Dishonest
  3. Using a script you Googled

Here's what actually works:

"I used to struggle with delegating because I wanted to make sure everything was done perfectly. But I realized that was creating bottlenecks and preventing my team from developing. So I've been intentionally working on trusting my colleagues, building clear processes, and focusing my energy on the highest-impact work. I'm not perfect at it yet, but I've gotten much better. My last manager specifically praised me for how well I've empowered the admin team."

Notice the structure:

  1. Real weakness (not a strength in disguise)
  2. Past tense ("I used to")
  3. What you learned
  4. What you did about it
  5. Evidence it's working

This shows: self-awareness, growth mindset, problem-solving, and maturity. That's a $120K answer. Not a $65K answer.

The Interview Ready Playbook ($47) decodes 50+ behavioral questions like thisβ€”including the ones that trip up even experienced EAs:

  • "Tell me about a time you failed"
  • "Describe a conflict with your executive"
  • "Why should we hire you over other candidates?"
  • "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?"

Each one includes:

  • What they're actually asking underneath
  • The psychology of what they want to hear
  • The STAR method framework for your specific answer
  • Red flags to avoid
  • Real examples that got people hired

$47 to never panic when they ask a curveball question.

Interviews are predictable. Once you know what they're really asking, they get way easier.

Reader, let me ask you something I ask every client who tells me they hate marketing or refuse to post on social media: How exactly do you expect people to find you? Like... for free? How do you plan to build trust with potential employers before you ever land in their inbox? How are recruiters supposed to know you exist when your LinkedIn looks like a digital ghost town circa 2017? Here's the truth: You either need to pay or you need to play. And honestly? Playing sounds way more fun. The...

You walk into the panel interview. Four people. All staring at you. Taking notes. They fire questions rapid-fire: "Tell us about yourself." "How do you prioritize?" "Describe a time you failed." "What's your management style?" You're trying to remember who asked what. You're repeating yourself. You're losing track. You're spiraling. By question 12, you're completely in your head: Am I talking too much? Did I already say that? Why is that guy frowning? Panel interviews aren't designed to...

You get the offer. $85,000 base salary. Benefits start in 90 days. Two weeks PTO. You're excited. Relieved. You want to say yes immediately. So you do. "Thank you so much! I'm excited to join the team. When do I start?" Negotiation window: closed. You just accepted $15K-$25K less than they would have paid you. Here's what should have happened: "Thank you for the offer. I'm very excited about this opportunity. I'd like to take 24-48 hours to review everything and get back to you. When would be...
